Urban Designer + City Planner

Seattle, WA | Full-time | Partially remote


LMN is an internationally recognized design practice made up of 150 diverse individuals who collectively design places that elevate the social experience. LMN’s Urban Systems Lab leverages the firm’s multidisciplinary studio to engage in projects at the seams of traditionally conceived architectural, urban design and planning practices, bringing a researched-based systems-approach to collaborative design and problem solving. With a focus on infrastructure design, campus planning, urban redevelopment, and strategic planning, LMN’s work facilitates positive change through design excellence, equity, sustainability, and resilience.

LMN employees collaborate in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are flexible workdays that allow employees to work in the office, from home, or any other location they choose. Monday-Friday core work hours of 9:30-4:00 allow employees to determine what working hours best suit their personal commitments, commuting, and work preference.

Position Description

A successful applicant will:

  • Collaborate and design across traditional urban design and architecture boundaries.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams from early planning phases through construction administration.
  • Bring experience in the development of complex, large-scale projects, which include urban infrastructure, transit, mixed-use development, and campus planning.
  • Provide planning and urban design support to architecture projects.
  • Facilitate and coordinate with diverse stakeholder teams including public agencies, other consultants, owners, and contractors.
  • Show experience and a commitment to inclusive and equitable stakeholder engagement.
  • Play a pivotal role in elevating the work of the Urban Systems Lab inside and outside of the office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional degree in city planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a range of planning and urban design contexts.
  • Knowledge of planning theory, principles, and best practices.
  • Experience with or eagerness to learn planning tasks such as research, public process and facilitation, code and policy development, district-scale sustainably and resilience, and policy making.
  • Proficiency with existing and emerging design and visualization tools and technologies, like the Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Revit, Arc GIS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
